MOOREA, FRENCH POLYNESIA

DANCE WITH HUMPBACKS

Join me on my next expedition to swim with humpback whales in the crystal-clear waters surrounding Moorea, a stunning volcanic island just a 30-minute ferry ride from Tahiti (Papeete International Airport / PPT). This is one of the few places in the world where swimming alongside these gentle giants is possible - a bucket-list experience for ocean lovers and conservation enthusiasts.

Moorea has strict regulations to protect its visiting whales, ensuring they have time to rest and recuperate. On our expeditions, we respect these rules, observing the whales’ behavior before entering the water. They set the tone for every interaction - because it’s their world, and we’re just visitors.

TRIP OVERVIEW

  • We are fortunate enough to have secured a spacious seafront villa with a pool, located right next to our captain’s home. This prime location means we’ll be departing for our daily whale encounters directly from the front of our accommodation - making every day seamless and stress-free.

    The villa offers:

    • 3 bedrooms (2 with queen beds, 1 with a king bed).

    • Two shower rooms for comfort and convenience.

Additionally, you’ll have access to our captain’s nearby amenities, including:

    • A workout area for fitness enthusiasts.

    • A relaxing jacuzzi to unwind after a day on the water.

    • A pool, perfect for cooling off during your downtime.

This setup ensures a relaxed, luxurious, and social environment, ideal for connecting with fellow participants and immersing yourself in the beauty of Moorea.

Note: The villa does not have a kitchen for cooking, but we’ve partnered with local chefs to provide delicious and balanced meals throughout the retreat.

  • We’ve partnered with local chefs to provide delicious and balanced meals throughout the retreat. Drinking water is provided free of charge at the villa, so you can stay hydrated and refreshed throughout your stay.

On our full boat days, we will have lunch on the boat.

Dinner will usually be served at the villa, except for two dinner outings (1 pizza night + 1 local restaurant with live music). We have found that when dining out, it's smoothest to let guests self-fund and choose whatever they would like to eat or drink. We will select restaurant options where the average main course costs around USD$20-25.

Note: Please let us know any dietary restrictions (e.g. vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free…) well in advance.

  • Searching for Humpback Whales

We’ll head out on a private boat with an exceptional captain who focuses solely on finding whales, not following other boats, along with a licensed guide to ensure an unforgettable experience.

While our primary focus will be on humpback whales, we’ve also set aside a half-day (depending on conditions) to explore the lagoon and meet Moorea’s iconic stingrays and blacktip sharks.

    Note: 4 Half-days (8:00–12:00) + 3 Full-days (8:00–15:30) to maximize our chances of meaningful whale interactions.

  • Optional Scuba Day (additional charges) or Island Exploration Day:

One day during the retreat will be reserved for you to choose your own adventure - either scuba diving to explore Moorea’s underwater world from a new perspective or immersing yourself in the island’s lush volcanic landscapes with hiking and relaxing on its pristine beaches.

  • Getting to Moorea is easy:

    • Fly into Papeete International Airport (PPT), Tahiti.

    • Take a scenic 30-minute ferry ride to Moorea.

    • Transportation to and from the ferry terminal in Moorea to Eden Bay Villa will be arranged for you.

  • Take Home Professional Photos and Sharpen Your Editing Skills

Bring back a collection of high-quality photos, edited in my signature style, that capture the magic of our time together - both in and out of the water. These images are perfect to share with friends and family, boost your social media presence, or promote your personal brand.

Plus, enjoy a casual on-site evening get-together dedicated to underwater photography editing, where we’ll cover all essential topics and questions you might have, so you can immediately apply what you’ve learned to your own photos.

What are the key requirements to join this expedition?

Swimming Skills: Participants must be strong swimmers and comfortable snorkeling in the open ocean, as we will be swimming at least 100m to the whales, sometimes against strong currents.

Snorkeling Only: Freediving experience is not required. We’ll primarily snorkel at the surface, which allows for better and more respectful whale interactions.

Open Ocean Comfort: You should feel confident swimming in deep blue waters.

Are there any sharks?

We certainly hope so! Spotting a shark, such as an oceanic whitetip shark, is always a highlight and creates unforgettable memories for our participants. While shark sightings are rare and don’t happen every day, they make the experience even more special when they do.

If we’re lucky enough to encounter sharks, rest assured we have clear safety protocols in place. No prior experience with sharks is needed - just an open mind and respect for these incredible creatures.

Are whale sightings guaranteed?

While we can’t guarantee whale sightings - this is the open ocean, after all - each encounter is guided by a touch of luck and nature’s unpredictability. That said, we’ve done everything possible to stack the odds in our favor. With extended time on the water, a highly experienced captain and guide, and choosing the peak season for sightings, we’ve maximized our chances.

In previous years, we’ve had a 99% success rate.

Do I have to be a photographer to join?

No! Whether you’re an underwater enthusiast, a photographer, or simply someone who feels drawn to the ocean’s magic, if you’ve ever dreamed of experiencing a meaningful connection with a humpback whale, this is your chance. Let’s make memories that will stay with you forever.

What should I bring?

A detailed packing list will be sent closer to the date, but here are a few essentials to keep in mind:

Reef-safe sunscreen: Protect your skin and the ocean.

Windbreaker & warm hat: It can get breezy on the boat!

Snorkeling gear: Bring your mask, snorkel, and wetsuit for maximum comfort in the water.

Sense of adventure: The most important thing to pack!
